IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE VIDEO "CAGED BIRD" DO NOT READ THIS POST. I REPEAT. DO NOT READ THIS POST. I REPEAT. DO NOT READ THIS POST. I REPEAT. DO NOT READ THIS POST. NO MORE REPEATING.
I must admit, the response to the video has exceeded expectations. As artist most of us create work for the sole purpose of being creative and we rarely take into account what others might think about the process or the finished product. Sure a nice job or pat on the back is nice but it is not always expected. However in the land of making music videos the opinions of others matter tremendously. It can make or break a song and songs to most artist and producers are like their children. They love and cherish them and expect you to take care of them when they are put in your care. I grew to hate songs because I hated the music video. My goal with this video was to create something different than the typical boy loves girl music video. Love is a word sometimes used without any regards to its definition. Which begs the questions, what does love really mean? Abusers often claim to love the person they abuse which to a majority is viewed as the opposite of love. With this video I wanted to show what people do when they are in “love” and when that word is taken out of context. Hashim Mills is an artist that makes socially aware and responsible music so I at least wanted to maintain a level of awareness and responsibility with the video. There is a scene towards the end that may be extreme but when you have too much of anything (in this case love) it becomes an extreme and extremes can be dangerous. I understand there are alternatives and violence is not always the answer. While we strive to entertain we also strive to educate and inform. We thank you for your understanding. As aforementioned I will gladly answer any questions or concerns regarding the nature of the video.
